The weird creature is called an Ursa and can literally smell fear ie the pheromones produced by the body when you are afraid. If you can "ghost" just like Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) then you are invisible to the creature.  The suit is called smart fabric which turns black when you are being followed. I have to admit i was too lazy to finish the volcano background scene. lol ghosting(absence of any sort of fear) is impossible coz most of us would be running like all hell has broken loose lol.
